Stuart Atkinson has been fascinated by astronomy and space exploration since he was, as he says, "knee high to R2D2". The author of almost a dozen astronomy titles, and the consultant on many more, Stuart broadcasts regularly on BBC radio, writes astronomy columns for newspapers and magazines in his area (when his jealous cat lets him) and is the Secretary of the "Eddington Astronomical Society of Kendal". Stuart can often be found observing and photographing the night sky from the dramatic ruins of Kendal’s historic castle. He has been giving Outreach talks for many years, to school and community groups, and is passionate about educating and informing people about the wonders of the universe and the future of space exploration. His particular fascination/obsession is with the planet Mars, and has passionately followed the mission of the Mars Exploration Rovers on his popular blogs since their 2004 landing.
